In praise of the Underground Garage

9 Aug

Even in the MP3 age, it’s hard to beat really great radio–you know, the kind where a real DJ with ears you can trust and a musical point of view spins some really great records and, heaven forbid, actually tells you about them. For my money, that beats the hell out of Pandora which just gives me what I already know. These days, nobody’s doing it better than the folk’s at Little Steven’s Underground Garage (Channel 21 over at Sirius XM). In a typical stretch you might hear anything from the Ronettes to the Ramones or the latest in a seemingly endless string of great garage bands from Sweden. My personal favorite DJ–former Rolling Stones’ manager Andrew Loog Oldham who fits the reasonably free-form format to a tee.
